This November, New York City’s skies will witness an exciting new addition. Monkey D. Luffy, the iconic captain from the globally popular anime, “One Piece,” is set to make his grand entrance as an inflatable character in the 97th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Luffy’s Grand Debut

After Goku from “Dragon Ball Z” paved the way as the first anime character in the parade, Luffy marks the second time an anime icon has been celebrated in this grand manner. With a vibrant history spanning more than 24 years, Monkey D. Luffy, with his infectious grin and dynamic energy, promises to be a crowd-pleaser.

The balloon, capturing Luffy’s essence, measures an impressive 43-feet long, 39-feet wide, and 50-feet tall. Parade-goers from Central Park West to Herald Square are in for a visual treat, as Luffy, accompanied by a dedicated crew of marchers, embarks on his maiden voyage.

Toei Animation’s President and CEO, Masayuki Endo, expressed his delight, emphasizing the expansive global audience of “One Piece” and the growing enthusiasm for anime in the U.S. and worldwide.

Celebrating the Legacy

Produced by Toei Animation and masterminded by creator Eiichiro Oda, “One Piece” has been an anime phenomenon since its inception in 1999. Following the adventures of Luffy and his crew, the series has expanded to films, games, merchandise, and much more.

In anticipation of Luffy’s parade debut, Toei Animation will present a 3D model of the character balloon at the upcoming New York Comic Con, allowing fans to get an exclusive sneak peek.
