Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Oujo: Wow, what happened in Chapter 41?

So, I just finished reading the latest chapter of Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji… Gosh, that was a roller coaster ride of emotions. So many emotions.

Honestly, my thoughts here are gonna have a ton of spoilers, so don’t read this if you don’t want any. Also, there’s a bit of profanity as well because I’m kind of annoyed.

What happened: Kyouya is pissed at Erika for getting closer to her new coworker (said coworker does have feelings for her, but Erika doesn’t want to cheat, and has never given any indications of untrustworthy behaviour). Meanwhile, Kyouya has a similar relationship with a girl on the student council, which has been bothering Erika for a few chapters already, but Kyouya brushes off Erika’s complaints. Read the latest chapters for full context about why I’m not happy with EITHER of these characters.

UGGGHH THIS IS SUCH A MESS, SERIOUSLY.

Honestly, these chapters are making me like Kyouya LESS, not MORE. The chapters before this story arc started were fine. Kyouya was kind of becoming a kind of decent person outside of his general douchy-ness to Erika. That being said, I don’t think that Kyouya is necessarily 100% in the wrong here. It’s perfectly justifiable for him to express concern when a coworker is possibly making unwanted advances towards Erika. Likewise, if Erika is uncomfortable with Kyouya’s closeness with another girl, Kyouya should at least TRY to make steps to solve the problem.

Despite all of this, BOTH characters are in the wrong. Here’s why:

  1. Erika should trust Kyouya. He has never cheated, he has never given any inclination towards wanting to cheat, and even though he makes a huge fuss about how annoying it is to cater to what Erika wants (even though her requests are totally normal and within the realm of what is humanly possible), he still isn’t an unredeemable asshole. Therefore, I think that Erika’s concerns were unjustified to begin with.
  2. Kyouya should trust Erika. He started their relationship off belittling and ridiculing her, and yet she STILL stuck with his sorry ass for 41 chapters. Any normal person would have noped the fuck out and left, but Erika’s still around and she loves Kyouya.
  3. No person in this mess can take the moral high ground. They’re both engaging in behaviour that makes the other person uncomfortable. If they want a healthy relationship, the behaviour that’s causing the problem needs to stop, or they need to accept the fact that they’re allowed to have friends of the opposite sex without jealousy coming into play.
  4. If there’s no trust, y’all got no basis for a relationship. Either fix these issues or break up so I can put this manga out of its misery and read much more interesting and fun manga.

Gosh, this manga is such a train wreck. It’s still an interesting train wreck though, so I’m probably going to keep reading. I’m such a sad human being…

Also, my next entry is probably going to be for Mahou Tsukai no Yome because it is AMAZING AND LOVELY and even though it isn’t strictly shoujo manga, it still has shoujo-esque qualities. Generally, it’s just a good read and I blazed through it in less than an hour and fully enjoyed myself. At any rate, you’ll have more fun reading THAT than Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji, I can guarantee that much.

Peace out.
