Good Day readers!

And today, an epic anime from the Spring 2013 list, “Suisei no Gargantia”, or “Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet”!!!

And from the first 10 minutes of the show, this series literally blew my mind away, because of the sheer amount of epicness involved in these first 10 minutes. Something I’ll elaborate later.

Suisei no Gargantia begins in the stars, rather, the galaxy, where the “Galactic Alliance of Humankind” reigns. Based in the far future, the alliance does all it can do defend its people by dissolving and removing threats of alien proportions. And immediately we are thrown into an epic war between the alliance and what seems to be an alien force of epic proportions, the plantlike Hideauze. The alliance fights with battle cruisers (vanguards), a helix cannon (able to cause a dimensional rift). and the Machine Calibers, fighting gargantuan robot suits powered by pilots inside it. And that is where we meet our main character, 2nd Lieutenant Ledo.

However, after a failed attempt to destroy the Hideauze’s super weapon, the humans attempt to flee, in the attempt to reach home before their wormhole closes. In an attempt to keep the Hideauze from reaching the wormhole portal, he fails to make the return ship, and is sucked into the wormhole alone…

…only to wake up after a 6 month stasis. Upon recovering, he immediately realises that he is no longer up in the stars and in the galaxy he once belonged, but on an ocean-covered planet, with a breathable atmosphere, and where humans roam as well. Sounds familiar? Well YES, Ledo has ended up on Earth! The place where humans began, where it was percieved as a myth to the alliance.

But all that is not important, for Ledo’s suit is in the process of being stripped by a group of scavengers! Appearing very primitive-like, they are trying to discover the foreign object they’ve found deep in the ocean. Attempting to defend himself, Ledo soon finds himself at a standoff between these scavengers and himself. He also soon discovers that they are not alone as well, but surrounded by an endless amount of pirates.

With no power to get back to where he came from, no reply from his old comrades, and no supplies, how will Ledo survive upon this planet? Stay tuned to find out!

From intial impressions, I first thought I was watching the wrong anime, because the initial setting was different from what I saw on the poster, LOL. But after watching it a while, I was very very impressed. This anime has a lot of important and critical things. I well-developed and solid plot, and all the visual effects you ever need to make an action-packed anime for many to enjoy. Seriously, the CGI and animations employed in the first episode were beyond what I could ever imagine you could do with an anime. The plot may appear far-fetched, but at the same time is not very impossible to imagine and because, they made it look very realistic.

Personally, I’ve always thought of anime as a very unique entertainment genre, for it is able to achieve the impossible, exceeding the limits of what normal acting in movies can achieve sometimes, and it’s exactly in such anime such as Gargantia that symbolises this. This anime also has all the awesome elements people dream off. Adventure, exploration  action, fantasy (maybe) and all round fun.

The reason why I watched this show was because… Production I.G. Then I went to see who wrote it and… lo an behold, Gen Urobuchi, AGAIN. So it was dead-set I will be writing the final impressions on this.

Of course, watching it reminded me a lot about an anime 2 years ago. YES… Last Exile: Fam The Silver Wing. Both had insane levels of animation and CGI where two forces were fighting it out, and both involved a scavenger-like group of individuals. But, Fam in essence was very dull and dry, for reasons that the battles and actions lacked the “epic” element, and was just very grand. Now it seems that Suisei might have the critical element to make it all so awesome!

Personally, I’d encourage you to watch this anime, for all its worth. The story is very original and there’ll be bound to be high levels of detail and precision put into this one. At this point I can’t predict anything that’s going to happen, so that’s a good sign! (More fun for me).

Suisei no Gargantia is a Spring 2013 anime, and premiered on the 7th of April. (WOW I’m late). It will have 12 episodes and 3 extras. It’s fansubbed by Commie, Hadena, Hatsuyuki-Tsuki and UTW-Vivid. It’s also available on Crunchyroll.

Expect more Spring 2013! (Not from me)
